FATV is please to announce this year’s recipient of the FATV Boulder Award for “outstanding community service through the use of public media” is David A. Svens.  Dave is a lifelong resident of Fitchburg and throughout his career and private life has been a tireless advocate for the city of Fitchburg.Dave Svens

Over the more than thirty years in radio and TV broadcasting, Dave has spent time in front of and behind the camera.  His resume includes time at WGBH-TV Channel 2 working on “French Chef” with Julia Child, Boston Symphony Orchestra Concerts and many others.

His radio credits include an alphabet soup of station call letters including WFGL, WXLO, and WCMX to name just a few.  As a longtime sportscaster, his voice could be heard on radio announcing the play by play of local high school sports.  He is probably best known to current Fitchburg residents as the FATV voice of Fitchburg High School Red Raider football.  Since 1992, Dave has been a member of FATV and joined the staff in 2004 as the Public Relations Director, the position from which he is retiring this May.

In addition to a career dedicated to his community, Dave Svens has served many civic and cultural organizations.  Over the years he has served on the Board of Directors of the Wallace Civic Center, the Fitchburg Historical Society and the Crocker Field Restoration Committee.  He has also served as a member of the Nashua River Greenway Committee and Fitchburg Urban Renewal Advisory Committee.

Please join FATV in celebrating the contributions of Dave Svens at the 14th annual Boulder Award Dinner to be held on Thursday evening, April 15, 2010 at the Fay Club.  Also being honored that evening are the recipients of the 10th annual member awards for outstanding contribution to FATV. The honorees are: Bethany Bourgault who will receive the Romolo Testarmata Award for all-round volunteer effort; M J Duffy and Jillian Wolons will both receive the Youth Volunteer Award; Terry Sugrue will receive the Production Creativity Award; Amy Green, host of Weekly Wellness, will receive the On-Air Personality Award; and the Editing Award will be given to Robin Heiser.

This event is open to the public and tickets can be purchased in advance from FATV, 175 Kimball St, Fitchburg.  For more information contact FATV at 978-343-0834.
